Eco-friendly fashions are becoming increasingly popular in today’s society, as environmentally-conscious shoppers attempt to lessen their impact on the planet and reduce their carbon footprint. But “being green” isn’t the only reason to consider purchasing big and tall clothes made from naturally occurring fibers – there are plenty of other great benefits associated with organic fabrics, especially bamboo.

It’s All About The Comfort

Big and tall clothes that are made from natural fibers are far more comfortable than items made from synthetic fabrics and manufactured materials. Not only are bamboo fabrics softer than traditional cotton materials, they also boast a texture that’s akin to silk or even cashmere. In fact, many people who experience allergic reactions to other natural fibers, such as wool or hemp, can wear bamboo without any discomfort. Bamboo clothing also absorbs moisture quickly, making it a great fabric for lightweight summer shirts and slacks. Other benefits of bamboo fabrics include:

  1. Naturally occurring antibacterial and antifungal properties: Bamboo fabrics possess an antibacterial bio-agent known as “bamboo kun,” which helps kill bacteria and keeps the wearer feeling fresher and odour-free longer.
  2. High degree of sweat absorbency: Big and tall bamboo clothing pulls moisture away from the skin and helps keep the wearer feeling cool and dry all day long.
  3. Naturally occurring UV protection: Depending on how the fabric is manufactured, bamboo fibers can include naturally occurring UV blockers that help protect your skin against sun damage.

Eco-Friendly Properties of Bamboo

Believe it or not, bamboo is the most eco-friendly fabric on the planet. Not only is the bamboo plant 100% biodegradable, but it’s also commonly referred to as the most renewable resource in the world, naturally replenishing itself in record time. As bamboo fabric becomes more and more popular with fashion designers and manufacturers, there will naturally be an increased demand for this product. But there’s no need to worry: increased bamboo crops will result in an increased amount of photosynthesis, a natural process that will help combat greenhouse gases and lower carbon monoxide measures.

Caring For Big and Tall Bamboo Clothing Items

Big and tall bamboo clothing can be washed with other fabrics in a regular cycle. However, if you’d like to extend the life of your bamboo garment, Big and Tall London’s Menswear recommends washing any bamboo fabrics using a gentle cycle in cold or lukewarm water. It is also a good idea to refrain from putting your big and tall bamboo garment in the dryer. The heat from the dryer can cause bamboo fabrics to lose their shape; it is therefore best to hang your bamboo clothing to dry. If necessary, iron your bamboo clothing items on low and never use the steamer function. Bamboo clothing items are pre-shrunk for comfort, and, due to the absorbency of the fabric, dye rarely runs during the washing process.
